The Red Summer Special is a one-shot set of stories within the Bitter Root series. The stories tell the history of the Sangerye family, and details the racism and history of Harlem and surrounding areas within the United States.
Whilst a prequel to the first volume, the Red Summer Special is included in the second collected edition, Bitter Root: Rage & Redemption. The issue was published July 10, 2019.
