Issue 10

Issue 10 is the tenth issue of Bitter Root and was published September 22, 2020. The tenth issue is included in the second collected edition, Bitter Root: Rage & Redemption.

Synopsis

“RAGE & REDEMPTION,” Part Five Adro is on the cusp of destroying the world as we know it. In order to stop him, a member of the family may have to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Plot Summary

A flashback to Tulsa, 1921, shows Doctor Sylvester caring for Miss Knightsdale and it quickly becomes clear that the latter was a nurse. Doctor Sylvester has learned about the Sangerye family and their monster-hunting quest and believes that they may hold the answers to helping Miss Knightsdale and curing her of her affliction.

In Harlem, things are becoming worse and tensions are rising. People have began to lose faith in the Sangerye family despite their reputation for healing the Jinoo. It quickly becomes clear that the Inzondo are quite similar to the Jinoo but are exhibiting different characteristics and have began writing symbols into the floor. With a little help from Wiley, Blink's Chinese friend, they are able to translate the markings and find that they are an invitation to the God of Destruction.

Meanwhile, Adro continues with her preparations to take over the world. She extends an offer to Doctor Sylvester and invites him to join her on he reign of terror. He is reluctant and eventually refuses. A fight breaks out between the Sangerye men, especially between Cullen and Jonnie-Ray. The discussion is put to rest momentarily, however, when Adro impairs Jonnie-Ray killing him instantly.

After witnessing the death of Jonnie-Ray, Cullen, Berg, Ford and Nora pull away preparing to retreat. Doctor Sylvester, however, believes himself responsible for the summoning of Adro and believes it his mission to rid the world of her once and for all. As a result, he pulls Adro through the Gateway and the two return to Barzakh.
