Issue 8 is the eighth issue of Bitter Root and was published June 10, 2020. The eighth issue is included in the second collected edition, Bitter Root: Rage & Redemption.

    Synopsis[edit]

The Sangeryes split into teams to tackle various threats. Meanwhile, Harlem is under siege, and Ardo’s plans are slowly being revealed. But what role will Sylvester play, and how much of himself is he willing to sacrifice?[1]

    Plot Summary[edit]

In Harlem, things are looking pretty bad after the explosion of Jinoo upon the city. Enoch has had little luck convincing the other monster fighting families nearby to help the Sangerye family and, as a result, they have turned to the local police force and began arming them to tackle the Jinoo. Enoch presents the police with two serums, the Fiif'no Serum for restoring the Jinoo, and another serum for curing the Inzondo. When asked about how they tell the difference between the two, Enoch remarks that his pets react angrily to Jinoo, but do not react to the Inzondo at all.

Despite the troubles, residents of Harlem have come together and set up support circles in the local club. Enoch and Blink visit one of the clubs in which people have congregated to grieve, and be safe. Aware that the Inzondo are created from mass grief and loss, Enoch and Blink rush to inject as many of the residents as possible with their new serum to prevent them from becoming Inzondo.

Meanwhile, Nora, Ford, Cullen, Berg and Jonnie-Ray travel to the South in the Sangerye truck. Berg believes that his psychic link with the other Inzondo will lead them directly to Adro; their biggest enemy.

Doctor Sylvester, however, finally comes to terms with the evil he has unleashed on the world. He is approached by the father of the boy lynched in the town, and the two talk about the sons death. Unsurprisingly, however, the man is concerned that the vessel before him — brought back to life by Adro — isn't his son at all, but is missing a soul.

Troubles arise for the Sangerye men when their truck breaks down on the highway. Cullen tells the group that it is silly for all of them to go to find a mechanic, but Ford makes a point that a singular black man would be out of the ordinary and would raise some questions and possibly, hostilities.
